City Review

Steaming two-inch-thick pizzas tangle the Green Lantern's patrons up to their beer mugs in cheese. Sandy, the long-time drink-slinger, keeps stories of her professional horseshoe pitching adventures close at hand. Domestic taps of Budweiser and Labatt's (isn't Canadian brew considered domestic yet?) threaten to flood the room. All in a corner bar set solidly in its place for over 40 years. The edifice screams from its cross coordinates of John R and Twelve Mile with bright greens and pinks. But don't let that color scheme throw you. Much more chill than the exterior suggests, this homey bar -- cheap, comfortable and packed with miscellaneous walls hangings -- is a prime gathering spot for sports fans and families. Its small size suggests an intimate setting, be it for the regulars who rub elbows or the side-stepping waitresses who run the joint. Sandy suggests ordering the pizza, which has been written up in local newspapers. Neighboring regulars petitioned for the weighty chili boat: a pool of chili, onions and cheese baked in pizza dough crust. For an even more affordable night, scout out the Web site for cyber coupons on both dishes. -- Jessica J. Shaw

Been getting those subs for over 40 years, and now a new location in Clawson makes it easier because I live in Clawson, it is on Rochester Road just a quarter mile south of 14 Mile Road. Love it!!!!

Grew up in Madison Heights, and may have had my first Green Lantern Pizza at the age of 4 or 5. Now in my mid fifties and living in Toledo Ohio area, and I try to never miss a stop at Green Lantern when I go home. Every pizza, I have ever had, is always compared to Green Lantern Pizza (hundreds I would say) and BY FAR Green Lantern in still #1.

The Italian subs are what has brought my family back to the Green Lantern for over 20 years. They're stacked high with ham, cheese, sweet & sour slaw, all on a toasted bun. For the perfect meal, add a frosted mug of beer. Yummmm!

Loaded with toppings. Cooked just rite. The flavors are unbelievable from the fresh toppings to the sauce. Wait staff is top notch. My personal favorite for Detroit.

The service at Green Lantern (Madison Heights) is worst than any pizza place I have ever been to! Pizza is great, but I won't be back anytime soon because of the horrible service.

I think I cut my first tooth on a Green Lantern Sub!

Jeannette on 06.09.2008

Had the "italian" sub for the first time tonight. At least, that's what I ordered. Opened the bag at home to see a sub with just a few pieces of meat and slaw. I don't think there was any cheese on it. I didn't taste any. Now that I check back on the site; I think they messed up and gave me the "double meat." Either way, a major disappointment. The WORST sub I've ever had in my life. Sorry, I've always loved the pizza but will never order a sub again.

JAckki on 06.19.2008

So good! Steamy... thick! Can't get enough! I go everyday now because I am hooked! I am going now! Here I come!

dakotadog on 07.19.2008

Lame website. "Our Story" is some kind of review by on outsider, obviously, and somewhat derrogatory. Very amatuerish layout. Pizza is great but, not anything like the 1st grader's website that the greenlantern.com is. Are you so top of the pizza hill that you don't need put effort into your website? And toss the stock photos of food from your site! Doncha got a digital camera? Or is the cigarette smoke to heavy to take a picture of your fabulous pizzas?

After reading all about how great this pizza was supposed to be, we had to try it out. Now the question is this? When will you be adding a Green Lantern in Canton or at least close by? The drive is too far for us to get pizza as often as we are accustom to and now we want no other pizza! Nothing compares now. It seriously is the best pizza we have ever had. Thank you, keep it up and keep expanding! (Canton would be a great location for your next expansion! :)

To Nodsetter.... Seriously need to take some time out and go outside once in a while. A review about a business or food(which you obviously like) is not a review on a website. Does it say "best website in town". Scrub.... rate the food not the site.

Nodsetter on 09.20.2008

To Amused: I was making the point that this lame website in no way conveys how great their pizza is, and I've been going their and carrying out over 30 YEARS! I must say, back in the day it was better...but there is no better pizza currently. I guess that's why people's reviews are better than this dorky, amatuerish website.
